ABOUT

Cecilia Casabona (she/her) is an independent Italian curator working across design and contemporary art. She collaborates with cultural institutions to conceive and deliver exhibitions, public programs, and editorial projects. Her practice spans curatorial development, project coordination, creative content production, and critical writing.

Her work centers on contemporary rituals positioned delicately between the collective and the intimate - powerful tools through which the collective body can reclaim space and agency. Through their inherent performativity, rituals assume a life-producing capacity, generating alternative worlds and narratives. She examines rituals as transformative interventions that reclaim the commons through artistic practices; as performative explorations of mourning shaped by art and design; and as cultural artifacts and performative objects that open pathways toward decolonizing design discourse. Within her curatorial practice, the exhibition emerges as a site where people gather, cultivate collective awareness, and together explore transformative, alternative forms of survival.

Cecilia is currently Associate Curator at Onomatopee Projects in Eindhoven (NL) and has curated or coordinated projects with BASE, DOPO?, Baltan Laboratories, ArtVerona Fair, and other international platforms. Alongside her curatorial work, she leads workshops in which she adopts an approach of “thinking by doing” through performative exercises. Cecilia also develops self-initiated projects such as un diseño sin Design at La Clínica in Oaxaca, a research and curatorial project that re-examines design beyond Western modernism, and Death-Design-Data, a research project exploring the digital dimensions of design and artistic practices in relation to grief, mourning, and death. Since 2025, she has been a Design Tutor at LISAA, L'Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués, in Paris.
